TO BOLDLY GO…..
Leaving the split infinitive aside Mr. O’Donoghue’s 5th enjoyed the wonderful experience of getting to talk to astronaut Thomas Pesquet as he orbited the earth on the International Space Station. The children had been invited to LIT by Marie Walsh, coordinating with our own Mark Gleeson. The class have been studying space as part of their Science programme and had already had a visit from Michelle McKeon Bennett who spoke to them about her work with NASA during Space Week.
With lots of preliminary study undertaken the class travelled to LIT for a day of space related activities.
Sophie and Sean from the class, as well as Gearoid O’Donoghue, had their first taste of being interviewed by the national media about the event.
We are grateful to Marie Walsh and LIT for offering us this great opportunity. It was a day to fuel the imagination and maybe some of the children will, in the words of Captain James T Kirk of the imaginary USS Enterprise, ‘boldly go’!

5th Class parents should have a good idea of their preference for a secondary school as the ‘Open Day & Application Season’ begins quickly again in September.
